1976: A St. Vrain farmer and his 10-year-old son were killed in a plane crash 16 miles northwest of Clovis.

Dwaine Lockmiller, 30, and Darl Lockmiller died instantly, witnesses said, when their two-passenger plane went nose-down into a field.

Witnesses said the plane had flown over a house in the area minutes earlier and the Lockmillers had waved at people on the ground.

1971: Clovis Police Department had three rookie officers who'd been on the job less than three weeks.

John Green, 23, was a Roswell native and father of four.

Andy Chavez, 22, was an Army veteran and a 1967 Clovis High School graduate.

J. L. Byrd, 22, was a recent graduate of Eastern New Mexico University with a degree in sociology.

1966: The region saw its first snowfall of the season.

Eastern New Mexico saw less than an inch of snow by sunrise, but some areas of northern New Mexico had more than a foot of snow.
