1976: Clovis Committee of Fifty named Clovis News-Journal Publisher Jim Griffin its new chairman.

The military affairs committee also selected car dealer Doc Stewart as vice chairman.

1971: St. James Episcopal Church at 1117 Main in Clovis was promoting its Christmas Eve services.

The children’s carol service was set to begin at 5 p.m. Adult choir caroling was scheduled for 10:30 p.m.

The choral Eucharist was at 11 p.m.

Nursery was provided for all services.

1961: Clovis Masonic Lodge members held groundbreaking ceremonies for their new building to be located on North Thornton.

Those participating included Worshipful Master S. A. Miller, Marshall Jack Vaughn and Chaplain I. D. Smith.

The project was expected to cost about $40,000.
