1976: The State Theater in Clovis was preparing to host its annual canned goods show.

The feature was "Angel in My Pocket," starring Andy Griffith.

Admission was one can of food, which was donated to the Salvation Army.

1971: Eastern New Mexico woke up to snow.

Most area communities reported hazardous driving conditions and several schools were closed.

Snowfall amounts ranged from 4 inches at Cannon Air Force Base to 8.5 inches in Clovis. Texico reported 6 inches of snow, as did Fort Sumner.

About a dozen minor traffic accidents were reported.

1966: A Portales soldier was slated to be posthumously honored with a Bronze Star for "material contribution to the United States in Vietnam," according to media reports.

Army Spc. Harry Gordon Dyer, who grew up in Portales and graduated from Portales High School, had been killed in Vietnam in June.

His mother, Mrs. Harry S. Dyer, was to receive the citation at the Portales National Guard Armory.
