Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Langrell: Change brings new name, expanded distribution

Change is important in any industry — journalism is no different.

Beginning Sunday, our staff will begin producing an innovative newspaper that will be distributed across the High Plains region of New Mexico and into the western portion of Texas.

Let me be the first to introduce you to The Eastern New Mexico News.

While the name of the papers will change, our commitment to cover Curry and Roosevelt counties and surrounding communities will only get stronger. Instead of stretching our staffs thin, we’re becoming more efficient and striving to produce a better and more in-depth editorial product.

You can still count on a newspaper with your morning coffee — that’s not changing. We’ll still deliver the paper to your home or business and stock our racks Tuesday through Sunday. Our subscription rates won’t change either, so there’s no impact on your wallet.

Previously, our two sister papers regularly shared national, state, comics and editorial pages. Oftentimes some of the sports pages were the same or very similar in both of our dailies. On the weekends, Saturday’s issues were already identical and the Sunday editions pooled many of the same stories and photos between its respective A and B sections.

We’re changing the name to better reflect just who we are — the newspaper of record and your source for community news in the eastern part of our state. Our balance of coverage will demonstrate that, and our readers and advertisers will now get “more bang for their buck.”

Count on more complete coverage of government, schools, events and sports in Curry and Roosevelt counties. Some of the benefits of “The News” include expanded distribution of obituaries as well as our classified advertising pages.

Our offices will remain open in Portales and Clovis with staffers there ready to help you with your advertising or circulation needs. We also welcome your news tips and feature ideas.

We have recently updated our printing capabilities. No doubt you’ve seen the difference in the past six months as we’ve utilized full color on every page and been blessed with top-notch production on a daily basis.

None of that is changing.

Be sure to pick up your inaugural copy of The Eastern New Mexico News this Sunday and join us as we take a big step forward in our coverage of Curry and Roosevelt counties under one umbrella.
