Portales City Council
The following were actions taken at the Portales City Council meeting Tuesday in the Memorial Building:
• Councilors approved a request for the award of a bid for professional services for the replacement of the Portales Senior Center’s roof.
According to City Manager Sammy Standefer, the resolution would allow the city to enter a contract with JMC Construction of Albuquerque.
The total price agreed upon in the contract with JMC, Standefer said, was $78,300, not including 8 percent gross receipt taxes.
• Councilors approved a request to reject all bids for professional services for library roof repairs and to re-issue an invitation to bid.
According to Standefer, the initial bid went over the project budget of $10,000 to around $50,000.
“We pretty well have to reject this. Originally, these two projects (senior center and library roof repairs) were lumped together. We never received money for them, which is why we thought that this project would come in a lot cheaper,” Standefer said. “We had to separate these projects. Basically, we had two different people bidding on them, so we’re willing to re-group. We need to reject these. Truthfully, we really anticipated the library project would be a lot less work than the senior center, so we’re trying to determine what’s going on there.”
• Councilors approved action to change the city council meeting schedule for January and February of 2017.
The schedule was changed to one meeting on Jan. 10 and one on Feb. 7.
