Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The Clovis High School marching band earned the grand champion honor at the High Plains Marching Festival at Dick Bivins Stadium in Amarillo on Saturday.
Additionally, Clovis amassed highest scoring distinctions in the percussion and color guard classifications.
“We competed against 27 other bands and fared well,” Clovis Band Director Bill Allred said. “The most important element is the level of improvement from the prior week in Lubbock. We’re getting better.
“Our confidence level is greater, the music is a lot tighter, the choreography is crisper and we are committing far fewer errors. The overall energy of the show really stood out as well.”
Allred said the band will compete in the Zia Marching Fiesta in Albuquerque on Oct. 29, followed by a trip to Las Cruces for a competition at New Mexico State University.
