ENMU ROUNDUP: Rambelles top Hounds in OT

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Sophomore midfielder Analise Watson scored on a header in the third minute of overtime on Friday night as Angelo State edged Eastern New Mexico University 2-1 in Lone Star Conference women’s soccer.

The Rambelles (8-3-1, 5-2-0 LSC) trailed for much of the match after ENMU’s Baylee Hampton scored in the 20th minute. ASU finally tied it in the 76th minute on a goal by sophomore Megan Allen.

Allen then had the assist on Watson’s match-winner.

Angelo outshot the Hounds 12-9 on goal in the contest.

ENMU (3-7-1, 2-5-0) returns to LSC action on Sunday with a 1 p.m. (MDT) match at Texas-Permian Basin.

Volleyball — At Stephenville, Texas, junior outside hitter Hailey Roberts had 14 kills and 11 digs as Tarleton State mainitained its share of the Lone Star Conference volleyball lead by beating Eastern New Mexico University 25-10, 25-21, 25-14.

The TexAnns (17-2, 8-1 LSC) also got 10 kills from senior outside hitter Autumn Taylor in handing the Greyhounds (10-9, 5-4) their third loss in the last nine matches.

ENMU got 13 kills from senior outside hitter Lauren Frye. TSU had just eight attack errors in the match, posting 36 kills on 81 attacks.

ENMU led 2-1 early in the first set after two kills by Frye, but the TexAnns scored the next four points and steadily pulled away. TSU went on a 5-0 run for a 15-6 lead and had the Hounds doubled the rest of the set.

ENMU was within 6-5 in the second set, but Tarleton scored the next five points with sophomore middle blocker Hannah McManus collecting two kills. The Hounds stayed close, though, pulling to within two points twice on kills by freshman outside hitter Sarah Tuioti-Mariner, but were unable to get any closer.

ENMU had four one-point leads early in the third set before back-to-back kills by Taylor put TSU in front for good at 9-7. A 15-4 surge put the TexAnns at match point, and senior outside hitter Rebecca Dauenhauer finished it with a kill.

ENMU plays the other co-leader, 11th-ranked Angelo State (17-2, 8-1), in a 5 p.m. start today at San Angelo, Texas. The Rambelles beat Western New Mexico 25-19, 25-12, 25-21 on Friday night.

Men’s soccer (Thursday) — Junior forward Luis Lozoya scored in the first minute, and ENMU made it stand up for a 1-0 Heartland Conference victory over Dallas Baptist at Greyhound Stadium.

Junior defender Robert Raspudic found Lozoya with a cross pass near midfield, and he beat Patriots goalkeeper Sean Boulard from about seven yards out with just 55 seconds gone in the match.

That lead held up the rest of the way as junior goalkeeper James Gutierrez made four saves en route to his fourth shutout of the campaign.Boulard also notched four saves for DBU (4-8-1, 2-7-0).

ENMU returns to the pitch today for a 1 p.m. Heartland matchup against St. Edward’s. The Hilltoppers (12-1, 8-1) won at West Texas A&M 1-0 on Thursday.
