ODESSA, Texas — Redshirt freshman quarterback Wyatt Strand threw for 260 yards and ran for 105 yards and three scores as Eastern New Mexico University pulled away in the second half for a 34-3 Lone Star Conference football win over Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday night.
The Greyhounds (4-2, 4-1 LSC) led just 10-3 at halftime before dominating play in the final two periods behind Strand. The Logan product scored on runs of 8 and 6 yards in the third quarter and 24 yards early in the fourth to put ENMU firmly in control.
ENMU finished the night with 524 total yards to 208 for the Falcons (2-4, 0-4) and a 26-11 margin in first downs. UTPB is playing its first season in the LSC.
Tayshaun Gary capped a 12-play, 81-yard drive with a 9-yard TD run following the opening kickoff. The Falcons pulled to 7-3 early in the second quarter on a 36-yard field goal by Bailey Giffen, but ENMU’s Bailey Hale knocked in a 47-yard field goal as time expired in the half to make it a seven-point game.
Hale added a 40-yarder to finish off a seven-play, 75-yard march with 5:12 left in the contest.
Chivasiay Gallagher added 69 yards rushing for the Hounds. Meantime, Aaron Johnson caught nine passes for 139 yards in the contest.
ENMU begins a two-game homestand on Saturday with its Homecoming game against LSC foe Tarleton State.
