1976: Charlie Bailey had been hired as the second female officer in the eastern New Mexico District for New Mexico State Police.
The district had 17 officers, including nine stationed in Clovis, to cover Curry, Roosevelt, De Baca and Quay counties.
1976: Funeral services were planned for Bill Carr, 59, the former mayor of Fort Sumner.
Carr was hit by a truck loaded with cowhides that crashed into the lumber yard where Carr was working, officials said.
The truck’s brakes failed, officials said.
1966: Reuben Nieves of Clovis had been named assistant district attorney.
He was appointed by James Compton of Portales, who was elected district attorney in the spring
