Rooney
This is one in a series profiling local students each week.
12-year-old Conner Rooney is a sixth-grader at Dora Consolidated Schools.
His favorite subject is science, and he has fond memories of working with microscopes with his teacher Laura Wilbanks.
Rooney enjoys playing basketball, baseball and football. While he found it difficult to say what his favorite sport is, he chose baseball.
What do you like about baseball?
It’s just fun. I’m the catcher, I’m the pitcher, I’m those main important spots. I was on the Roosevelt County 10-11 All Star Team this year. All the people are like, “Oh, gotta get that. Stay on top of that.”
Who is your favorite teacher and why?
That’s a hard one, because I think the teachers will be like, “Oh, really?”
Miss Wilbanks. We only have her on Mondays and Tuesdays every week after lunch. We have her because she usually teaches junior high and high school, but she has time on Mondays and Tuesdays, so we go to her class at that time.
She’s just so happy and excited all the time, and talks about cool different stuff, and I like that.
What would you like to do when you get older?
What I want to do is I want to go to college, and get my major, I think, and then join the army as a high-ranked officer, and be like a lawyer on the other time.
As my mom says, “You’re a good arguer.”
What is your favorite part of school?
Going home.
What would you say is the most difficult part of school?
Coming here.
