Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Club notes — Sept. 25

Clovis Rotary Club

Clovis Rotary Club on Sept. 15 honored two of our finest for lifetime achievements and altruistic service.

Drs. Sam Neff and Elwyn Crume came to Clovis in 1957 — Neff as a general practitioner and surgeon and Crume as an optometrist.

Rotary’s motto, “Service above self” has been a shared principle of both. They gave selflessly in service to their country; Neff as a B-24 pilot during World War II, and Crume as a doctor of optometry in the Army Air Corps and U. S. Air Force Reserves.

One would be hard-pressed to find anyone who has given so much, yet asked for so little in return. They’ve both spent sleepless nights and long days caring for the sick and distressed.

Mayor David Lansford declared Sept. 15 as Dr. Sam Neff Day and Sept. 16 as Dr. Elwyn Crume Day.

Both men were awarded keys to the city.

Curry County Republican Women

CCRW met Sept. 13 at K-Bob's Steakhouse. Guest Speaker was District Court Judge Matthew Chandler, 9th Judicial District. Judge Chandler gave an impressive history of his education and experience. He brings a conservative voice to the bench and is committed to upholding the Constitution. Judge Chandler is requesting our vote in November to keep him in his current position. He encouraged members to make sure friends and neighbors vote.

Rube Render, Curry County Republican Committee chairman, stated that eight people were registered to vote at our booth at the Rotary Art in the Park. Rube's request for funds to support cost of yard signs and ads was approved by members.

Next meeting will be at K-Bob's Steakhouse on Oct. 11.

Guests are welcome to come enjoy lunch and learn about events or services in our city and county. Information: 762-2524 or 763-4390.
