Lady Cats fall to Hobbs in four

Staff report

The Clovis High volleyball team fell to Hobbs Thursday, losing in four sets 25-16, 27-25, 21-25, 25-21.

After the Lady Eagles (9-1) came rushing out of the gates taking an early 4-0 lead, the Lady WIldcats (3-5) managed to hang around, but could never quite get back in to the set. Eventually Hobbs pulled away, taking the set by nine.

Flipping the script, the second set was controlled by Clovis early as it capitalized on several Hobbs errors and made very few of its own. But the wheels eventually fell off and Hobbs rallied for a two-game lead.

“The wheels fell off. I really feel that was the turning point in the game. When we lost control of that, we didn’t have much of a chance to recover. We really could have had a different outcome had we won that, but I am not taking anything away from Hobbs. They have been beating some good teams for a reason,” Clovis head coach Greg Apodaca said.

The third and fourth sets were close, with Clovis holding off Hobbs’ late surge in the third. In the final game, Hobbs scored the final four points to seal the win.
