ALBUQUERQUE — Sophomore Elias Ortega scored two goals and assisted on another Friday night as Clovis High posted a 3-1 victory over Sandia Prep in boys soccer.
The Wildcats (3-3), bouncing back from a 5-0 loss at Hobbs on Tuesday, did all of their scoring in the first half, including an assist for goalkeeper Spencer Rollins, who booted a long ball ahead that Ortega ran down for the first goal of the game in the 17th minute.
Rollins, meantime, had four saves. He lost his shutout when the Sartans (2-2) got on the board midway through the second half on a goal by junior Cole Hanrahan.
“A totally different team showed up to play tonight (from Tuesday night),” CHS coach Greg Trujillo said. It was a good win. Sandia Prep is always a quality program.”
The Cats return to action with a 6 p.m. clash on Tuesday against New Mexico Military, to be played at the Yucca complex. Meantime, the CHS girls host Roswell High that night at Leon Williams Stadium.
