St. Helen Catholic Church is hosting their annual Fiesta Sept. 9-11 at the church. The event will include games, food and kids activities, plus the newly added reverse raffle.

“We celebrate the feast day of our patron saint, St. Helen,” said Britton.

Britton said the event will include food and game booths plus fun kids activities including dunking booths, a pinata bust, a cake walk and face painting.

The fiesta begins with the blessing of the grounds at 4 p.m. on Friday, according to Britton.

Britton also said the crowning of the fiesta king and queen kicks off the ceremony.

Those crowned are the ones whose families fundraise the most money, according to Britton.

Britton said two girls, Amanda Ornelas and Jiselle Montano, are competing for the queen with only one contestant for the king, Elijah Montano.

A reverse raffle drawing is a new addition to the fiesta and will be held on Friday evening, said Britton.

A total of 700 tickets at $100 a ticket will be sold for the raffle according to Britton.

Every 100th ticket drawn comes with a cash prize of $100, the 200th receiving $200 and up to the 600th getting $600.

Britton said the person with the last ticket drawn gets a grand prize of $10,000.

The grand prize will still be given if 700 tickets are not sold, according to Britton.

Britton added each reverse raffle ticket comes with two sit-down meals on Friday evening and $10 worth of tickets to use at the booths for the whole weekend.

Britton said those interested in purchasing tickets can contact the church office.

The food and game booths open at 9 a.m. Saturday with a car show and music happening that day.

The fiesta dance will also be held Saturday evening at 7-11 p.m., said Britton.

Britton said the fiesta will also hold a basket raffle drawing on Sunday at 3 p.m.

She said tickets for the basket raffle are $1 each.

“We have had 12 generous people — they have donated a themed basket,” said Britton.Britton said themes include two disco baskets, a prayer garden basket and a Keurig-themed basket.

Britton said the basket raffle will replace the basket auction held in the past.

“That has always been successful,” said Britton. “We were ready for a change.”

“It’s a lot of work but it’s a lot of fun,” said Britton. “Feedback has been positive. I feel we do have a good attendance.”
