Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and so is your sense of style. Trends come and go but having keen eyes for how to make any look your own is what’s so great about fashion. Not every look is for everyone but it’s fun to experiment with new ones. Here is a two for two of what I think are the best and worst trends happening in 2016.
NiekaStyle
• The best: The slip dress. This dress has been trying to make its way back on the scene for a couple of years now. Every often you’d see a select few celebrities put their own spin on the look. It’s been paired with sneakers to thigh high boots. This is a great vacation or a weekend getaway look. This dress screams “party girl”.
• The worst: Oversized jackets. If it’s not a pair of oversized sunglasses or a t-shirt dress than I don’t want it oversized. With exception of bomber jackets — which are already a relaxed fit — I don’t really see the point of wearing large jackets. Apparently this look is the new blazer. I prefer a robe-jacket for a cover-up. I’ll let the oversized jackets stay in the 1990’s era.
• The best: Matte lipstick. I just love a good matte lipstick. I stopped wearing lip-gloss back in high school. Instead, I have always preferred to downplay the lip with a simple stain of color. So now that matte lipstick is trending there are so many neutral colors to choose from. I still haven’t dared to wear bright reds but I still really love a mauve tint.
• The worst: Partially shaved heads. Unless you’ve landed the ultimate job where no one cares what you look like, I wouldn’t advise sporting this look. I’m not a stranger to cleaning up the hairline but taking a buzz cut to the side of the head is something I won’t be sampling.
