The Clovis Community College Board of Trustees on Wednesday morning approved changes to the college catalog and approved purchase of 280 Apple iPads to be utilized in the nursing program.

The iPad purchase price was $199,171.90. The money will come from nursing expansion funds provided by the New Mexico Higher Education Department.

“This is a long time coming,” CCC President Becky Rowley said.

Executive Vice President of Educational Services Robin Jones said the iPads, which would stay at CCC, would be used to supplement instruction and do research in the classroom.

“We’re actually very excited about this purchase,” Jones said. “I think it’s really going to do a lot for their instruction.”

Chairman Raymond Mondragon began the meeting by recognizing faculty member Becky Carruthers for her retirement.

“We want to congratulate you; thank you for your service at Clovis Community College,” Mondragon said to Carruthers. “You’ve been an outstanding faculty member of this college, and we appreciate you.”

The board then voted to approve changes to the 2016-17 CCC catalog.

These changes include:

• Updates in Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) information, updates to financial aid information, adding general education philosophy statements and revised degree plans and the general education core courses listing.

• Seventeen classes changed in names, course descriptions and/or degree plans.

• Five new classes added.

• Twelve classes / programs deleted, including four math classes and seven nursing classes.

• The name of the Legal Assistant Studies program changed to Paralegal Studies.

• The addition of a new program, Fundamentals of Game Design Certificate of Achievement.

• The elimination of the associate of arts in educational assistant degree.

• The reduction of the general studies and liberal arts degrees to 60 required hours.

The next meeting is slated for 8 a.m. Aug. 3 in CCC’s Room 512.
