Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
When the temperature goes up, we look for ways to keep cool. In my days growing up in Portales, that usually meant a trip to the pool. On the days I could not go to the pool, it would mean spending some time in a yard sprinkler. We would usually go to my house or my friend Tom's and run back

and forth getting as wet as we could. Occasionally we would see a neighbors sprinkler going and we would stop by and take advantage of it.
One afternoon we saw a neighbor setting up a pretty big sprinkler in his front yard. Mr. Snelson was the principle at one of the elementary schools and lived at the end of our block.
Mr. Snelson was a really nice guy and he was more than willing to let us play in the sprinkler once he had it running. That sprinkler was really big and put out a lot of water. It was not long before we were soaked.
We had about had enough and were getting ready to leave when Mr. Snelson came out with a water gun and started it all up again. We finished up our water fight enjoying popsicles together.
I miss the old neighborhood.
