ENMU preps for sports camp season

PORTALES — With the school year complete, it’s time for sports camps throughout the summer months.

Eastern New Mexico University will be hosting a plethora of camps in the months of June and July ranging from fall football to winter basketball and even spring baseball. Starting with the camps that begin earliest, here’s all the information you need to sign up for the sports camps of your choosing:

• First up at Eastern is the Little Greyhound Soccer Camp which starts this Monday and runs through Wednesday. The camp is for ages 4-8 and runs from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

The cost is $60 for ages 4-8 and $75 for ages 8-12.

In addition, ENMU soccer is having its Greyhound Elite Camp which runs July 14-17 and is for ages 12-18.

There are two types of campers for this event: Residential, who will stay in the ENMU dorms, and commuter, who will not. Residential drop off for the first day starts at 10 a.m. and the camps end at noon. The cost for a residential is $350 while the cost for a commuter is $200. Residential campers will receive three daily meals in the ENMU dining hall while commuters will receive lunch every day.

• The basketball camps will include instructions from both the men’s and women’s ENMU basketball teams. The ENMU women’s camp has its individual skills camp June 13-16 which runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and is for both boys and girls, from kindergarten through 12th grade. The fee is $95 per person and includes a free basketball, T-shirt and will provide lunch each day. There is an option to stay until 5 p.m. for an additional $25.

There is also a team camp option. The ENMU men’s team camp is June 10-12. Cost is $500 per team. ENMU Women’s Team camp runs June 20-22. There will be a guarantee of eight games, possibly more depending on bracket play. The cost is $600 per team or $1,000 for two teams.

• For baseball, the Hound Youth Summer Camp runs June 15-17 and is for kindergartners through eighth graders. The camp starts every day at 9 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $50 per person. • The ENMU volleyball camps will include team camps as well as individual skill camps and are organized by age level. Team camps start Monday June 27 and run through Friday July 1. Ages kindergarten through fourth grade will have camp that Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Grades 5-8 will have camp June 29-July 1 from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and high school students from ninth through 12th grade will also have camp June 29-July 1 from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Prices are $50 for the K-4 group and $60 for all others. The prices include lunch and a T-shirt for all campers.

The specialized skills camps include a setting camp and a hitting camp and is for grades 5-12 only. Both camps are July 5 and July 6. The setting camp has the early time of 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. and the hitting camp follows from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. The price is $40 for each camps and also includes lunch and a T-shirt.

• The final camp offered is the ENMU Football Camp. There are two types of camps offered: One Day Camps which are hosted in three different cities on three different days, and the 5th Annual 7-on-7 lineman challenge.

The One Day Camps are June 28 at Clovis High School. The second one is July 11 at Rio Rancho Cleveland HS and the July 12 camp takes place at Onate HS in Las Cruces. All three camps have the same 10 a.m.-1:15 p.m. schedule and will cost $30 per player.

The 7-on-7 Lineman Challenge takes place 9 a.m. on July 15. No further details have been revealed about this camp. Questions for this camp can be sent to ENMU offensive coordinator Kelley Lee at [email protected].
