Clovis man convicted of sixth DWI

Staff report

A Curry County jury on Tuesday deliberated 15 minutes before returning a guilty verdict in the trial of a Clovis man charged with his sixth DWI offense.

Ninth Judicial District Attorney Andrea Reeb’s office said Steve L. Holcomb, 60, was found guilty of driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs in the one-day trial.

According to a release from Reeb:

• On March 5, 2015, Clovis police responded to the drive through at a Dairy Queen, where Holcomb refused field sobriety tests and stated, “I am drunk so just take me to jail.”

Officials said Holcomb later agreed to take a breathalyzer test, which showed his blood alcohol level to be more than three times the legal limit.

Judge Fred Van Soelen ordered Holcomb, who faces 18 months to 30 months in prison, be taken into custody pending a sentencing hearing.

Assistant Public Defender Frank Rio did not returned phone calls seeking comment on the case.
