Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The 2016 Met Gala has come and gone, but the fashion at this year’s event is still being talked about. For those of you that aren’t familiar, the Gala was once called the Costume Institute Gala and also known as the Met Ball, which is a fundraising event.

Each year there’s a theme at the costume exhibit which sets the tone of the type of formal dress celebrities and other guests will wear. There’s nothing better than having a themed event to get dressed up for.
The theme this year was “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.” The exhibition focused on the dichotomy between handmade and machine made fashion. Both have come to be embraced in today’s fashion. At this year’s event, there were gowns with super long trains, lace up chunky boots, super embellished gowns and a lot of lace.
First up is footwear. I was surprised to see the amount of celebrities wearing ankle boots with evening wear. Vogue describes it as the “pretty/tough combination.” Sampling this look, to name a few, was actress and music artist Selena Gomez and actress, Michelle Williams.
One of my favorite looks was actress Kate Bosworth in Dolce & Gabbana. She wore a chiffon jeweled embellished gown with matching hairpiece. The look was stunning.
Actress Emma Watson, better known for character Hermoine Granger in Harry Potter, has taken the route of sustainable fashions on the red carpet. According to CNN style, the majority of the fabric used on her gown was made from Newlife, a yarn made from100 percent post-consumer plastic bottles; and the detailing on the bustier was made with organic silk and cotton.
There were definitely some daring choices made by some attendees and I agree with Vogue Magazine. The future of fashion has arrived.
