A discussion regarding a multi-county detention center facility may soon take place between Curry and Roosevelt County commissioners.
Roosevelt County Manager Amber Hamilton informed Roosevelt County commissioners at their Tuesday meeting that they had received a response from Curry County in regard to holding a discussion about the possibility of a shared facility.
Roosevelt County commissioners appealed to Curry County commissioners last month to hold their $10 million bond to renovate their own detention center until a discussion could be had between the two counties about a shared detention facility.
Curry County Commissioners moved forward on their facility renovations, but agreed to reach out to Roosevelt County commissioners to have the discussion.
“The Board of County Commission has requested that we set up a meeting with the county manager, two county commissioners, detention center administrator and a representative of the New Mexico Association of Counties,” read the April 21 response addressed from Curry County Manager Lance Pyle.
“I’ve had conversations on multiple occasions with De Baca County, and we’ve had conversations with Quay County,” Hamilton said of the other counties she has reached out to about a multi-county jail.
Roosevelt County commissioners requested that Hamilton extend an invite to the meeting to Quay County and De Baca County officials before setting a date with Curry County officials for the meeting.
