CANYON, Texas — Three members of the Eastern New Mexico University softball team were named to All-Lone Star Conference squads during a banquet on Thursday prior to the start of the league’s postseason tournament.
Junior second baseman Audrey Velasquez and junior shortstop Susannah Chandler were named to the second team, while senior catcher Kyra Sirag was a third-team choice.
Velasquez, from Las Cruces, hit .354 for the Greyhounds (14-42, 5-27 LSC) and had a career-high 17 extra base hits, including three home runs. She tied for sixth in the league with 69 hits, had 22 multi-hit games and committed just three errors while helping turn seven double plays.
Chandler, from Farmington, was a third-team choice last season. She hit .364 in 2016, including .429 with runners in scoring position, and had 21 multi-hit outings.
Sirag, from Garden Grove, Calif., tied Alex Mayo Otis for most games played in program history. She paced the team in 2016 with a .374 batting average, including 20 extra-base hits and a career-best 38 RBIs, while she picked one runner off base and threw out 13 trying to steal.
