Our People: Doe of the highest order

Kristy Marney was born in Pennsylvania. Her father served in the United States Air Force and the family moved to Clovis. Her father retired in 1970. She’s the youngest of five sisters. Her mother, Mae Pruey, was a member of the Grand Lodge, Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does for 50 years and Marney followed in her steps and has made some footprints of her own.

She ran for the national floor in 2009. It takes seven years to climb the chairs for president and Marney became Supreme President of the Does in June 2015 for the one-year term.

She has flown all over the nation to visit various chapters and conduct meetings. She will hand over her position in June at the national convention in Lincoln, Nebraska. Marney is married to State Policeman, Dean Marney and she has two children.

What do you like about being a part of the Does organization?

Traveling and meeting all the members. You have to have a theme and symbol in this organization and my symbol is the dreamcatcher and my theme is, “Dream Big.”

What don’t you like about the Does?

Nothing. I stayed in the most beautiful suites and got a chance to see a lot of the country.

What is your theme song?

“Dream Big” by Ryan Shupe.

What’s your idea of a perfect day?

Spending time with my family. My mom is here (living in Clovis), my two kids. We love to go to the park and do picnics and just be outside.

Tell us about your pet(s).

I have three 100-pound dogs. Our baby is 131 pounds. We have German Shepherds named Duke, Bear and Emma.

What’s your favorite TV show, past and present?

“Dancing with The Stars” and “The Voice.” My past favorite show is “Happy Days.”

What’s your favorite taste?

Steak and wine. It’s fun to try different types of steaks and I love Pinot and Merlot.

What’s your favorite smell?

Roses and the rain.

Who’s invited to your fantasy dinner party and why?

My dad, who passed away in 1997. I’d like to introduce him to my kids and tell them all about him.

Tell us about your greatest individual accomplishment?

Becoming the national president of the Does. It took seven years so to be able to represent New Mexico was cool.

When you were a kid, what did you think you’d be doing as an adult?

My biggest goal was to be a mom and is my number one greatest accomplishment.

What do you envision your life being like in 10 years?

We should be retired by then. I’d like to travel. I want to take my husband to all the places I’ve traveled during this past year of being president.
