CANYON, Texas — West Texas A&M teed off on Eastern New Mexico pitching early and often, and the Buffs snapped a season-high four-game skid with a 15-5 victory over the Greyhounds to start a three-game Lone Star Conference’s series Friday night.
The teams face each other again in a noon doubleheader.
Shortstop Jake Fuller went 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs, including a two-run double to highlight a four-run second for the Buffs (30-15, 18-12).
The host Buffaloes chased Alec Lemmon (2-3) after just two-thirds of an inning, scoring seven runs with six hits and an early Greyhound fielding error. Just three of the runs came across earned.
Reliever Dominic Yearego won his first decision of the season, pitching 3 2/3 inning in relief with four of WT’s 10 strikeouts.
The Buffs finished with 18 hits, five of them doubles, and posted a team slugging percentage of .657.
The Greyhounds (10-35, 3-27) got on the board in the fourth inning, when Zack Shank hit a two-out bases loaded single. Shank led the Hounds with a 2-for-4 effort, while Jacob Cluff had a 1-for-4 night with a two-run double in the seventh.
