Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The Clovis city commission met Thursday at the North Annex of the Clovis-Carver Public Library.
All commissioners and Mayor David Lansford attended. All votes were 8-0.
• The commission declared Thursday as a day in honor of Clovis Christian School’s elementary division state championship in the National Archery in the Schools Program.
All elementary archery division contestants are eligible to compete in the May 12-14 national tournament.
Commissioner Ladona Clayton, also superintendent for CCS, noted the team set a state record with a 2,857 team score, had six of the top 10 shooters and set records for best individual boys and girls elementary scores.
• The commission appointed George Jones and Clifford Kuchta to the Public Works Committee. Kuchta was the only applicant for the District 4 position, while Jones was voted in ahead of longtime committee member Lonnie Leslie.
• The commission appointed Eva Wheeler-Sagiao, Teri Marney and Patsy Delk to the Parks, Recreation and Beautification Committee. Marney and Delk were elected to their spots in District 2 and Curry County, while Wheeler-Sagiao was the only District 1 applicant.
• The Revenue Review committee was completed with the appointments of citizen representatives Terry Blaschke (District 1), Gene Porter (District 2), Robert Telles (District 3) and John Montano (District 4).
• Connie Harrison, assistant finance director, was named as the city’s outstanding supervisor of the quarter and presented a clock.
Finance Director LeighAnn Melancon said she wanted to have Harrison in the department dating back to when Harrison worked with Curry County.
“She has come to the bright side, she is now one of us,” said Melancon, who noted Harrison was invaluable during the recent municipal elections.
Lansford said Harrison’s presence was definitely noticed.
“You bring a tone, an environmental change that brings everyone up to your level,” Lansford said.
• The next meeting is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. April 21 at the North Annex.
