LOVINGTON — Clovis High’s girls won three of five “mini-duals” on Friday and Saturday in the season-opening Wildcat Open, hosted by Lovington.
The Lady Wildcats scored 4-0 sweeps of Portales and Mayfield, and also posted a 3-1 victory over Lovington. They lost to Hobbs 4-0 and to Artesia 3-1.
Senior Samantha Lee led the Lady Cats, winning four of her five singles matchups with her only loss coming against Hobbs. Meantime, junior Kylie Brooks was 3-2 at the other singles slot.
In doubles, sophomore Jadan Andersen and eighth-grader Kyla Ramirez were 3-2 and juniors Madisono Credle and Mya Grimes posted a 2-3 mark.
The CHS boys, meantime, went 1-4, posting a 3-1 win over Portales, losing to Artesia and Mayfield by 3-1 counts and dropping 4-0 decisions to Mayfield and Hobbs.
Coach Brenna Silveira mixed things up on the boys side for the Wildcats. Junior Kayden Lamb posted singles wins against Portales and Artesia and senior Eduardo Hernandez was victorious against Lovington.
The Cats got doubles wins from juniors J.J. Alvarado and Nick Donaldson against Portales and sophomore Colby Coiner and eighth-grader David Heath against Artesia.
Clovis squads are in action on Thursday in a tournament at Levelland, Texas.
