Clovis at Alamogordo boys

On the air: KCLV 1240 AM/99.1 FM, streaming online at kclvsports.com

Records: Clovis 3-20 (0-5), Alamogordo 7-18 (1-4).

Last time out: Both teams have been idle since Friday. The Tigers fell 58-50 at Carlsbad, while Clovis fell to Hobbs 74-42 at home.

Last meeting: Feb. 5, 62-60 Alamogordo.

Impact: Both teams will face each other 7 p.m Tuesday to open the 4-6A tournament, with the winner traveling to the second seed Thursday. But still in the balance is the No. 3 seed, and home-court advantage Tuesday. Clovis needs to win by three or more to claim the No. 3 seed by the district’s third tiebreaker, point differential in head-to-head games. Alamogordo would claim the tiebreaker with a loss of two via overall district point differential, with a loss of one via head-to-head point differential and outright with a win.

Elsewhere in 4-6A: Hobbs and Carlsbad are still fighting for the No. 1 seed, and a bye into the Feb. 27 title game. Hobbs is in the driver’s seat with its previous 53-44 win at Carlsbad. A Cavemen win Friday would force a neutral-site tiebreaker game next week, likely Monday in Artesia.

Common opponents: Inside of District 4-6A, both Clovis and Alamogordo are 0-4 against Hobbs and Carlsbad. In non-district competition, the Tigers and Wildcats have played Roswell, Goddard, Atrisco Heritage, Centennial, Las Cruces and Valley. Clovis is 0-6 in those contests, while Alamogordo is 1-6 with a win over Goddard and two losses to Las Cruces.

Of note: The Wildcats, losers of six straight, are 1-10 on the road this season. Clovis coach Scott Robinson said the week off has been good to both get players recovered from a flu bug and to practice some things. “We’ve been working against halfcourt trap,” Robinson said. “That’s what Alamogordo runs, and we’ve seen a little of that with Hobbs.”
