1975: Gerald W. Simms, 19, had reported to police that a citizen’s band radio, valued at $160, had been stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at a local youth center.
Rick Kinard, who lived at 600 Christopher in Clovis, had reported he’d been robbed of 15 eight-track tapes. The tapes, valued at $150, had been stolen from his car, Kinard said.
1960: La Vista Lounge in Clovis offered mixed drinks and charcoaled steaks.
Dancing was held nightly after 9 p.m.
1940: A.J. Whiting, former manager of the Texas-New Mexico Utilities Co. and former city manager of Clovis, died of pneumonia.
He was 68.
In addition to being a community business leader since arriving in Clovis in 1910, Whiting was a 32nd – degree Mason and known as the “Daddy of DeMolay.”
