• Last meetings: Emporia beat the Greyhounds 74-63 in last year’s holiday classic at WT. It’s likely the first meeting between ENMU and Nova Southeastern, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
• Last time out: ENMU downed Colorado Mesa 86-82 on Saturday in the Comfort Inn Classic at Gunnison, Colo.; ESU, of the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Conference, broke into the victory column on Tuesday with an 80-72 win over Northwestern Oklahoma in the Hornets’ home debut on Tuesday,, and Nova Southeastern lost at St. Leo 93-88 on Saturday to even its Sunshine State Conference record at 1-1.
• Of note: It’s the longest trip of the season for Nova Southeastern (1,650 miles). … The Sharks list eight players at 6-foot-5 or taller; Emporia State has five at 6-7 or taller on its roster. … Leading scorers for the Hornets so far are 6-2 senior G Terrence Moore (19.7 ppg), 5-11 freshman G Brandon Hall (16.3 off the bench) and 6-7 junior F Joshua Oswald (10.3), who hales from Melbourne, Australia, and is a transfer from Division I Miami (Ohio). Moore and Hall are each shooting 55 percent from the field, while Oswald leads the team in rebounding (7.3 rpg). … Chris Page, a 6-5 junior G, leads three Sharks in double figures at 23.3 ppg. Harrison Goodrich, a 6-8 junior F/C, is averaging a double-double (13.3 ppg, 11.0 rpg) while 6-5 senior F Nick Penderroast averages 11.7 ppg off the bench. … Senior G John Gilliam scored 54 points in ENMU’s two games last weekend in Colorado and is averaging 18.5 ppg so far.
