Render: Democrats forgot how to debate

A friend of mine mentioned to me last August that he thought Jim Webb would be a viable candidate for president on the Democratic ticket. I said there is no way the Democrats would nominate a former secretary of the Navy, Marine Corps combat infantry leader with a Navy Cross, Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts.

Turns out I was right.

Webb was derided for answering the debate question, “Which enemy are you most proud of?”

Webb’s answer was, “I’d have to say the enemy soldier that threw the grenade that wounded me, but he’s not around right now to talk to.”

Politico’s reporter, Ken Vogel, tweeted that Webb had a “creepy smirk when describing enemy soldier apparently killed after targeting him.”

Shortly thereafter, Webb bowed out of the nominating process.

It looks like the Democrats would rather nominate someone who “landed under sniper fire” in Bosnia in 1996 and, “we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.”

The “we” mentioned in the above quote included her daughter, Chelsea. As a side bar, anyone who drags their daughter into a hot landing zone shows exceptionally poor judgment.

In fact her judgment wasn’t that bad after all, since she lied about the sniper fire.

The former secretary of state is left to face two stalwart Democrats in open debate; Sen. Bernie Sanders, an aging Socialist, and Martin O’Malley, former governor of Maryland. Neither of these candidates seems to grasp the basic concept of political debate.

The thought of actually forcing Hillary Clinton to answer for her job performance or to defend herself against any of the scandals swirling around her escapes them completely.

In an attempt to create some controversy and generate a small measure of interest in the remaining debates, Democrat political operatives and some major newspapers have cautiously submitted the idea that Clinton’s ties to big Wall Street corporations as well as her personal wealth may be fair weaknesses to attack her on.

That’s it?

They recommend attacking her as being too much like Donald Trump?

A Northern Virginia volunteer for Bernie Sanders points out that, “I’m not out to cut out Hillary’s support, I’m here to build up support for Bernie’s point of view, whether or not he wins the election.”

If he can’t cut into Hillary’s support, Bernie can’t get elected.

Remember when Democrats demanded more debates? What in the name of all that is holy possessed them to do that?
