Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
In case you’re traveling this Thanksgiving week, here’s a message from New Mexico State Police:
Seems they will be participating in the nationwide “I-40 Challenge: The Drive to Zero Fatalities,” according to a news release.
The release reports:
“The safety initiative spotlights all states along Interstate 40 nationwide ... Law enforcement agencies in each of the eight states will be conducting high intensity traffic operations on the busiest travel days of the Thanksgiving holiday.”
NMSP tell us the I-40 corridor is a major commuter roadway, totaling 2,555 miles — 376 miles of which are within the state of New Mexico.
“It is the goal of the New Mexico State Police and the other participating agencies that a strong law enforcement presence will have a direct effect on the driving behaviors of the motorists during the Thanksgiving holiday, and, thus, reduce the number of crashes and increase motorist safety,” the release said.
In other words: buckle up, obey the speed limits, and don’t drive while distracted or impaired.
You have been warned.
