Portales Woman’s Club
Portales Woman’s Club met on November 11th with President, June Ferguson presiding. Mary Lou Rowley gave the invocation, and Jan Smartnick led the pledges and Collect. There were 16 members and one guest present.
Correspondence was read and the treasurer’s report was filed for audit. Patti Schroeder won the door prize.
Civic Chair, Doncella Caywood reminded members about the date they signed up to deliver Meals on Wheels in November and said she would let everyone know when the Mayor’s Christmas Tree and the Santa Cop event were and have people sign up to provide cookies.
Gaynelle Thomas, International Chair, thanked members for providing items for the Samaritan Purse projects. The club voted to pay the postage for shipping the items overseas.
Amber Hamilton, Program Chair, introduced Liz Smith, Pastor at the Floyd United Methodist Church, and she talked about Veteran’s Day and having a thankful attitude in everything one does. The club donated books to Pastor Smith in appreciation for her program.
Caywood introduced others on the hostess committee: Erinn Burch and Phyllis Jones.
The next meeting will be on December 9th at noon at the club building.
Portales Altrusa Club
The Altrusa club of Portales met on Nov. 9 at noon in the Zia Room at the Central Annex. President Cozetta Moore called the meeting to order at 12:10 p.m. and the opening ceremonies were conducted. The minutes were approved. There were 23 members and 2 guests present. Melissa Schramm drew for the Queen of Hearts. Secret pals were thanked.
The club approved a motion to have the Altrusa benches painted at Golden Acres, and to contribute items at the next meeting for Heartland Country Store. Members also approved a board recommendation to hire a professional firm to clean the Altrusa triangle. Several committees met after the business meeting to plan upcoming events.
Those serving on the hospitality committee for the meal were Linda Leaming, Judy White, Kim Sites and Donna Mowrer.
The remainder of the meeting was centered on the 18th annual Holiday Happening event scheduled for Saturday, December 5 from 10:30 to 2 pm in the Campus Union Ballroom at ENMU. Tables are still available for purchase and individual tickets can also be bought from Dannah Brown at 575-356-3705 or 575-607-6201.
The meeting adjourned at 1pm.
