Undefeated Melrose will make its eight-man state title defense as the No. 1 seed, with the eight-team field announced Sunday by the New Mexico Activities Association.
The entire four-team District 4 made the field, with Gateway Christian as the second seed, Dora fifth and Tatum seventh.
The Buffaloes (10-0) will face Jemez Valley in the quarterfinal round, with the winner taking on either No. 4 Logan or Dora. On the other side of the bracket, Gateway Christian hosts Tatum, while Magdalena hosts Carrizozo in the 3-6 game.
All four quarterfinal games are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.
