Explorers wanted: Think you want to be a cop?

The Clovis Police Department is recruiting for its Clovis Police Explorers Program for 2016.

The 12-month program is for those 14 to 18 years old, according to a news release from CPD.

“We explore many things that involve law enforcement, not just police work,” the release said.

“We have defense and prosecution attorneys come in and talk about courtroom procedures. We also have demonstrations from SWAT, criminal forensics, traffic enforcement, K-9, and emergency driving.

“This also includes patrol, investigations, and narcotic duties. We conduct classroom instruction and practicals, which consists of one evening and one Saturday per month.

“We also go over defensive tactics and discuss the equipment that is available to each officer. Explorers will assist with several events and programs throughout the year.”

Anyone interested is asked to go to the Clovis Police Department and complete an application.
