1955: Two Clovis airmen were killed and four others injured in a two-car collision near San Angelo, Texas, that also killed a Houston woman.

State highway patrolmen said an airman was attempting to pass several other cars when the crash occurred.

1950: Curry County Courthouse officials reported issuing 41 marriage licenses over the Labor Day weekend.

Saturday was the busiest day, with 35 licenses issued.

Couples came from New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma and Mississippi.

“The traffic in marriage licenses was the heaviest since the record of 48 set on a weekend several weeks ago,” the Clovis News-Journal reported.

1970: Gibson’s, at 108 Sycamore St. in Clovis, was hosting a fall fabric sale.

“Just arrived,” a newspaper ad proclaimed, “new selection of 100 percent polyester double knit.”

The price had been reduced from $7 per yard to $3.88 per yard.

Gibson’s was open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
