Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The district manager of Clovis’ water provider was arrested Friday and charged with driving under the influence, while driving a company vehicle, court records show.
New Mexico State Police stopped Brian Daly as he drove an EPCOR vehicle southbound on State Road 209.
He was booked into the Curry County jail at 11:53 p.m. Friday and released early Saturday on a $500 cash or surety bond, records show.
Officers had Daly contact his supervisor, and EPCOR employees picked up the vehicle, records show.
Rebecca Stenholm, public and government affairs spokesperson for EPCOR Water, said they place high standards on safety and are taking the charges extremely seriously. She said EPCOR is aware of the incident and is working closely with local law enforcement agencies and investigators.
Stenholm declined further comment, stating that EPCOR wanted to respect Daly’s privacy during the legal process.
An attempt to reach Daly was unsuccessful Tuesday.
According to a criminal complaint obtained at Clovis magistrate court, an officer noticed a vehicle traveling through a checkpoint “at a high rate of speed with high beams on.”
Once police stopped Daly, the officer noticed that he “had blood shot watery eyes and slurred speech,” records show.
“I asked Mr. Daly if he had any alcoholic beverages to drink tonight,” the officer wrote in his sworn complaint. “He stated yes, about four hours ago. While Mr. Daly was standing in front of me, he kept swaying back and forth and had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath and body.”
Officers booked Daly after he failed field sobriety tests and two Breathalyzer tests, records show.
EPCOR is the “largest private regulated water provider in Arizona and New Mexico, serving 22 communities and 7 counties,” according to its website.
