1960: The Portales Mounted Patrol was home after riding with 13 other posses in the Levelland parade.
Morris Gorrell transported the horses to Levelland in his trucks.
1955: A man wanted for six years on swindling charges turned himself into the Curry County sheriff.
The man had allegedly obtained $3,200 under false pretenses from a Clovis car dealer. He turned himself in because the incident had “been weighing on his mind and ... he wanted to get it cleared up,” the Clovis News-Journal reported.
1950: Joy Morgan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Morgan of Floyd, had won an all-expense paid trip to Chicago to attend the National 4H Congress held at State College.

1888: Sam Bratton was born in Kosse, Texas.
He became an attorney in 1909 and began practicing in Farwell before moving to Clovis in 1915.
He was twice elected a U.S. senator from New Mexico, then became a circuit judge for the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
He retired in 1961.
