Clovis airport gets grant money

Staff report

The Clovis Municipal Airport received $150,000 in grant monies, according to a release from U.S. Sens. Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich.

The $150,000 will be used to pay most of the cost for a new runway sweeper. The sweeper will be similar to those used by the city’s public works department to simplify maintenance.

The street sweeper costs $190,000, with the city and the state each providing $20,000 matches. The purchase was approved during the June 4 Clovis city commission meeting.

The money is part of a total disbursement of $3.345 million spread across nine airports. The largest disbursement will go to the Alamogordo-White Sands Regional Airport ($1.4 million) for a runway extension.
