Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Editor's notebook — Aug. 13

Coming Friday: Columnist Kent McManigal opens with a question:

“What do you want badly enough you are willing to steal to acquire, and kill those who resist your theft?”

The answer, he reports, can range from a smart phone to expensive shoes to a fighter jet.

Then he suggests other ways to get what you want that don’t involve violence.

Looking further ahead: United Way and Portales Ministerial Alliance are planning to host a special food distribution from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Aug. 22, according to a United Way news release.

“New applicants can be seen from 10:30 (a.m. to) 11 am. The distribution will be held at Central Christian Church, 1528 S. Main St., in Portales.”

The idea is to help provide food assistance to low-income households.

The distribution is open to qualified individuals living in the Portales area who are not being served through any other mobile food distribution site.

New clients will be asked to provide a picture ID and to fill out an income eligibility form, the release said.

Volunteer opportunity: If you’d like to help distribute food on Aug. 22 in Portales, call the United Way at 575-769-2103.
