Granted, we’ll miss him ...

Radio personality (and newspaper columnist) Grant McGee is leaving town. He announced on his Facebook page Tuesday he and the “Lady of the House” are moving to Florida, where she has family. They’ll be around until July 31. Garage sale hosts from Muleshoe to Fort Sumner are among those mourning this departure, knowing they could always peddle something to one of Clovis’ finest couples.

Another kind of fireworks ...

Roma’s restaurant owner Mario Ajrula is among business owners along Mabry Drive concerned about planned road construction that starts next week. Ajrula said he lost his lunch crowd last Saturday because construction markers were already limiting access to his property. Department of Transportation officials will be on hand at 5 p.m. today at Clovis-Carver Public Library to discuss plans and hear concerns.

Cannon Air Force Base is hosting an open house from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 8. Multiple activities are planned, including a performance by the Lt. Dan Band, headlined by “Forrest Gump” actor Gary Sinise. (Don’t salute him.) It’s all free.
