Clovis man dead in pickup crash

A 20-year-old Clovis man died early Sunday in a single vehicle crash in Portales and police are searching for the driver of the pickup, who left the scene.

Angel Garcia of Clovis died at the scene, State Police Sgt. Elizabeth Armijo said in a news release.

Another passenger, Arturo Curiel-Loya of Clovis, suffered head injuries and was transported to the Roosevelt County General Hospital, the release said.

The accident happened about 2 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of NM State Road 267 and North Industrial Drive in Portales.

“The initial investigation revealed a 1999 Ford pickup was traveling southbound on South Roosevelt Road,” the release stated. “The vehicle crossed the intersection of NM 267 and continued south on North Industrial Drive. The vehicle then exited the roadway and collided into a tree. Witnesses observed the driver of the vehicle flee on foot from the scene.”
