Police: Scam artist posing as officer

Portales police say a scam artist is going around town representing himself as a officer.

Police said the man tells his targets they are winners of Royal Star Sweepstakes and to collect their prize, they need to give him 1 percent of the total prize money.

Police said they are not part of any sweepstakes and will not solicit money from anyone. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Charlie Smart.
