Zias share third place at Ranger rodeo

RANGER, Texas — A second-place performance by senior Hayden Segelke-Todd in barrel racing allowed Eastern New Mexico University’s women to split third, fourth and fifth place in team standings over the weekend of the Ranger College Invitational.

Tarleton State won the team title with 330 points, followed by Texas Tech at 225 and ENMU, Weatherford College and Vernon College at 120.

Segelke-Todd finished second in the first go of barrel racing and reached the finals of the short round. Junior Macy Devenport was fifth in the first go of barrels, while sophomore Lindsey Adcock was second in goat tying in both the first go and in average.

On the men’s side, Tarleton State took team honors with 860 points while Western Texas College was second at 335. ENMU finished with 120 points, splitting seventh through ninth places.

Freshman Levi Lord earned second place in team roping. He was fifth in the first go and claimed second place in the short go and in average.

Logan Vick reached the short go in steer wrestling.

ENMU squads will conclude the regular season this weekend at Tarleton State.

Track — ENMU squads earned seven top-4 finishes over the weekend in the Ross Black Open track meet at Hobbs, hosted by New Mexico Junior College.

For the men, Casey Lozano led a 2-3-4 ENMU showing in the 1,500 with a time of 4 minutes, 15.11 seconds. Following him were Benjamin Lantz (4:19.58) and Irwin Vera (4:21.11).

Also for the Greyhounds, the 1,600 relay team claimed second place in a time of 3:34.58 while Darrence Taylor took third in shot put at 48 feet, 6 inches.

The Zias got a second-place finish from Ally Salata in javelin at 131-2, and a third from Adilene Adame in hammer throw at 138-3 1/2.

Next up for the Hounds and Zias in the West Texas A&M Twilight Meet on Saturday.
