Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Notebook

Taking applications...

- We’re sprouting spring job fairs everywhere. Locally, there’s one from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Clovis Civic Center. Then May 1 in Albuquerque, there’s a job fair strictly for veterans at Isleta Resort & Casino.

Stretch your mind...

- Your body, too ... at An Afternoon of Yoga is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in Oasis State Park. You’ll need $5 — the park entry fee — and to check out a Facebook page called Yoga Flow for Sexual Assault Awareness for more details.

Coming up...

- Round two of the fight over the par 3 golf course at Hillcrest Park. It’s the parks and recreation committee meeting 5:30 p.m. Monday at Clovis City Hall. Last time, Commissioner Juan Garza got so mad he walked out at suggestions the course be scrapped for disc golf and an outdoor theater. Ought to be interesting.

Parting thoughts...

- “If I had taken my doctor’s advice and quit smoking when he advised me to, I wouldn’t have lived to go to his funeral.”

– George Burns, at age 98
