Community to honor city manager

Staff report

Tomorrow is unofficially “Joe Thomas Day” in Clovis as the community gathers to honor the stalwart public servant at several retirement receptions.

The City of Clovis is hosting a come and go reception for Thomas, who retired Friday. It’s from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow in the assembly room at City Hall, followed by a formal retirement reception at 7 p.m. at the Clovis-Curry Chamber of Commerce Rock N’ Roll Museum.

Thomas will also be honored at the Clovis city commission meeting at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at the Clovis-Carver Public Library.

After 11 years on the job as city manager, Thomas officially relinquished the keys to the city manager’s office Monday to Larry Fry.

Although Thomas has served in the city manager’s office since 2004, he spent more than 42 years in service to the city as the assistant chief of police, the interim chief of police, a deputy medical investigator, the director of public works and as the assistant city manager.
