Lady Rams sweep district tilts

SANDIA PARK — The Portales High softball team brought its bats to East Mountain and displayed them all afternoon in a 22-0, 15-2 sweep of the Timberwolves in the District 4-4A opener for both teams.

In the first game, the Lady Rams (8-6) took over right from the start with 14 runs in the first inning and eight more in the second on 24 hits. PHS was also helped by seven errors by the Timberwolves (5-13) in a game called after three innings by the 15-run rule.

Freshman Alexis Garcia went 4-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs and four runs. Micaela Garcia was 3-for-3, scoring two runs and driving in two.

Kiersten Ramirez pitched three perfect innings, striking out eight of the nine batters she faced.

In the second game, Portales opened a 9-1 lead in the second inning and cruised from there, although the Lady Rams didn’t finish it until scoring four times in the top of the seventh. Sky Marianito went 4-for-5 with a double and three runs scored, while Kailee Ramirez was 3-5 with four RBIs.
