Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Club notes — April 12

Pintores Art League

The purpose of Pintores Art League is to educate, encourage and expand appreciation for art in our community. We strive to select a variety of guest presenters from the art world to teach us their expertise from which we can grow artistically.

Our guest presenter for April was Carolyn Lindsey, art department chair at Clovis Community College. Lindsey stressed the importance of value placement to create an artful painting.

Next month’s presenter will be Vance McSwain, oil painter.

The recent Spring Fling exhibit at CCC netted 106 paintings in the professional and student categories.

Each month, a Pintores member presents art at the Clovis-Carver Library. Their display remains at the library for the month.

July will feature Pintores Art League Group exhibit at the library. The theme is ‘Spring Time.’

Curry Education Retirees

CCAER met April 7th at K-Bob's, as Carrie Lindsey and LaNell Leatherwood presented the program “N.M. History using marionettes.”

Mrs. Lindsey gave the background on how her mother educated her six children in the music and art fields, and eventually built the marionettes as an avenue to teaching New Mexico history to her family, local townspeople and the neighboring towns as well.

In addition to creating the marionettes, Carrie's mother also painted the backdrops that were featured in the production. LaNell described how the marionettes were built and gave additional family information about how her grandmother used her artistic talent in painting murals, similar to the backgrounds, in a local school gymnasium.
