League seeking logo

A redesign is underway for the county’s baseball little league logo, but it’s not league officials who will be designing it. It’s you.

“We had been talking about designing a new logo; we’ve had the same logo for a number of years,” said league board member Becky White. “We just decided let’s open it up. Let’s make it a community conversation. Let’s get some people who would not necessarily come out on opening day to come out.”

White said the league has sent out flyers to county school districts, the university and other entities letting it be known they want community members to submit logo designs.

“It just seemed like something fun to do,” White said. “We’re being very open-minded with it. It’s completely up to the artists who submit what they design (the logo to be).”

Board member Stephen Swift said the Roosevelt County Little League had borrowed their current logo from a company, which gave them permission to use it, but once it came down to online registration, the league didn’t want to use someone else’s logo.

“We’ve never had a really cool logo, so we wanted to have one,” Swift said. “We hope we get something really neat. We don’t have anyone who is really artistically inclined, so we’re hoping someone in the community can give us something really cool.”

White said designs are limited to a two-color image due to being able to print the logo on uniforms and hats for a cheaper cost since the league is a non-profit organization run on fundraising and donations.

But, she said, the two colors can be whatever the artist chooses.

Deadline to submit a league logo is Wednesday, April 8.

White said opening day for the 2015 little league season begins at 10 a.m. April 11 at the Rotary Park fields with each team being introduced individually and games following.

She said the top three logos will be put on display for community members to vote on, and people will vote for each logo by dropping change into the box associated with a particular logo. She said by the time opening day is over, whichever logo raised the most cash will be the new league logo.

“I think it would be really cool if someone from our local community came up with something we could call our own, and they would always know that they created that for us,” Swift said.
