NMHSCA releases all-state selections

ALBUQUERQUE — Several CMI-area players have been named for 2014-15 all-state basketball honors by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.

In Class 6A, senior Danni Williams was named to the girls first team while senior Shelby Jones made the second team. The Lady Wildcats posted a 27-3 record and were eliminated by La Cueva in the state semifinal.

Portales landed juniors Kambrey Blakey and Sheraya Cox on the Class 4A girls first team and sophomore Jeremie Karngbaye and junior Bronte Staugaard on the boys second team. The Rams were 17-10 and reached the state semifinals, while the Lady Rams (23-7) lost to Hope Christian in the 4A girls title game.

Junior Brianna Reyna and sophomore Jasmine Gannon represented Class 3A girls state champion Texico on the first team, while Tucumcari placed senior D’Ontee Sandoval on the 3A boys first squad.

Class 2A girls champion Melrose had senior Caley Barnard and junior Taylor Bostwick on the first team. Meantime, 2A boys runnerup Logan put senior Wyatt Strand on the first team and senior Wesley Gudgell on the second squad while the Lady Longhorns, who lost to Melrose in the semifinal round, put juniors Kippi Webb and Brooke Rachor on the first team and senior Shana Sorrels on the second unit.

Senior Taylor Dillard represented the Dora girls on the 2A second team.

In Class 1A, girls champion Elida put senior Marily Varela and sophomore Taylor Epps on the first team and junior Kynzi Creighton and senior Kenzee Criswell on the second squad.

Grady freshman Jordyn Stowe represented the Lady Bronchos on the 1A girls second team.
