Clovis routs Del Norte

STAFF REPORT

ROSWELL — The Clovis Wildcats haven’t had much to fret about in their first two days of the Roswell Invitational. Suits first-year coach Richard Cruce just fine.

Clovis cruised Friday against Del Norte, winning 10-0 in a game called in the bottom of the Wildcats’ four-run fourth.

Joseph Ramos led the Wildcats with 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Austin Adams was 1-for-3 with a two-run double in a four-run second for Clovis (3-2).

Jordan Holguin finished off the rout with a bloop single to score the 10th run. Eight of Clovis’ nine starters got hits off of Del Norte pitchers Alex Cordero and Anthony Valdez.

Matt Lanier pitched the four innings for Clovis, giving up just five hits. The Wildcats won 7-0 over Lovington Thursday behind a two-hitter from Landon Williams.

“The kids got off the bus ready to play,” Cruce said. “ It was a really businesslike performance by all of them today.”

Clovis finishes up the tournament with a 2 p.m. game against either Belen or Goddard. Cruce said the team went home following its Friday game and might not know who they’re playing until they step on the field.
